Pourquoi la Région de l'Érable?


The Maple Region, also called "the MRC of Maple" (regional municipality of county) also carries the title of "Maple Capital of the word". The area is very strongly identified to maple and it makes all the necessary efforts so that the population recognizes this association and that it diffuses notoriety of it.


Why we are the "Maple Capital of the world"

We have...

  • 1.5 millions of sap extraction connections;
  • An average of 3 800 sap extraction connections per maple farm;
  • Among 96 MRC (regional municipality of county) in Québec, the ranking of the Maple Region is:
    • 2nd on the number of producers / km2
    • 2nd on the number of sap extraction connections / km2;
    • 5th on the number of producers;
    • 6th on the number of sap extraction connections;
    • 9th on the number of sap extraction connections per maple farm.

Plessisville's Maple Festival was on its 47th year in 2005 and that makes it the 2nd oldest festival in the province of Quebec. The oldest being the Carnival of Quebec (48 years in 2005).

The Maple Region has another popular event treating of the time of sugars. The Festival of sugars of Saint-Pierre-Baptiste

 



The presence of the Maple syrup producers' cooperative Citadelle-Camp , in Plessisville is fundamental for the territory. Founded in 1925, the cooperative settled in Plessisville in 1928. Since this time, thousands of maple syrup barrels forward by Plessisville. The cooperative processes and markets maple products of very first quality so that they adequately meet the needs for its many customers throughout the world. With time, the cooperative became the most important maple syrup exporter in the world. " The Maple syrup producers' cooperative Citadelle-Camp name of the cooperative since 1996 - has 2 100 members, is about a third of the acériculteurs of Quebec. The company has three factories in Quebec, one in New Brunswick and of somes bistro-boutiques in full expansion.
